Steve and Debbie TothSteve and Debbie Toth

“Toth – it rhymes with ‘both”, is what Debbie always likes to say when folks try to pronounce their last name.  Toth is a common Hungarian name.

Steve was born in Hungary and spent his early childhood there. In 1957, during the big Hungarian exodus, his family immigrated to the US.  They were sponsored by the Episcopal Church. Quick to pick up English, he did well in school attending the prestigious Hill School in Pottstown, PA. From there he obtained his E.E. at MIT in Cambridge, MA and then his MBA from the University of Southern California. He proudly served his new country in the US Air Force.

When you come visit us at Roseland Plantation, ask Steve about his trips to the continent of Antarctica and his visits to the USA’s McMurdo, Palmer and South Pole stations during his time as Director of IT and Communications at Raytheon Polar Services.

And now, for something completely different …

Debbie is a native Texan and the whole state is her “hometown”.  She was born in Port Arthur, Texas, the fifth of six children, to a very poor Methodist minister. During her childhood she lived various places in and around the Houston area as well as in Dallas, Crosbyton and San Antonio, Texas. As an adult, she helped start and obtain accreditation for two private schools, worked as a Project Coordinator for a government contract company and then as a medical secretary for the Director of Endocrinology at the University of Colorado Hospital in Aurora, Colorado.  But the most favorite and exciting occupation she has ever had is that of award winning artist.  During the last three years of their time in Colorado, Debbie worked full-time as an artist. In that brief time she had many group and individual shows, was the featured artist for the Longmont, Colorado’s Art Walk and was the Best of Show award winner for the Gateway to the Rockies International Art Show.

The engineer and the artist – what a pair! Actually they are a match made in heaven – God knew what He was doing bringing these two together. Between them they have five wonderful children, and four of the most beautiful grandchildren you ever did see.

Steve and Debbie have always enjoyed staying at Bed and Breakfasts whenever they traveled. They determined that, if the Lord ever opened a door for them, they would have their own B&B someday. With the ending of Steve’s job in Colorado, the door opened and here they are.

What an exciting business to be in with joyous weddings, bed and breakfast visitors, fun afternoon teas and informative tours. We are as busier than have we ever been in our lives. The very best part of it all is getting to meet and host the most interesting people from all over the world.

We ask the good Lord for His help every day to make Roseland Plantation a blessing to others.  This is our prayer – and to God be all the glory.

And now a sad postscript ...

When you come to visit us at Roseland Plantation, Debbie's cheerful smile and hearty laughter will no longer greet you because she lost her battle with cancer in January of 2010.  Nevertheless, you will definitely experience her spirit, her joy, and her zest for life as you are welcomed and pampered by Steve and the Roseland Plantation staff.

Come, join us for an unforgettable experience of your lifetime!
